Many people these days are adopting fasting or the ‘fasting’ method to control or eliminate obesity. Among these, intermittent fasting has gained significant popularity, which is based on intervals between meals. In simple terms, it is a fasting method where there is a gap between eating times. Recently, another study has come out, proving that intermittent fasting helps activate important processes in the body for weight loss and reducing obesity.

Recent Study on Intermittent Fasting

Experts from various research institutes in Spain conducted this study, aiming to understand how intermittent fasting, such as Time Restricted Eating, affects obesity and health. The study involved 197 participants aged 30 to 60, who were overweight or obese.

Study Methodology

During the study, participants were provided nutritional guidance for 12 weeks, and they followed a diet plan based on the Mediterranean diet. The findings of the research revealed that combining intermittent fasting with healthy eating habits can be more effective in treating individuals with obesity and can speed up the treatment process.

Findings of the Study

The study also found that having the last meal before 5 PM and not eating at night helps significantly reduce subcutaneous abdominal fat (fat under the skin). This type of fat is considered harmful to health. In Spain, 70% of men are affected by obesity, while the percentage for women is up to 50%. This excess weight is linked to several metabolic disorders and, over time, can lead to heart and blood vessel-related problems.
