Former Real Madrid and Spain defender Sergio Ramos has joined Mexican club Monterrey on a one-year deal. The 38-year-old had been a free agent after leaving Sevilla, his boyhood club, at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Ramos, who won the 2010 World Cup with Spain and claimed European Championship titles in 2008 and 2012, has had an illustrious career. Monterrey, managed by former Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis, is currently 10th in Liga MX.
Ramos began his career at Sevilla before moving to Real Madrid in 2005, where he spent 16 years. During his time at Madrid, he won 22 trophies, including five La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies. After leaving Madrid in 2021 for Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year contract, he returned to Sevilla in 2023.
At Monterrey, Ramos will wear the number 93 shirt, a tribute to the last-minute goal he scored in the 2014 Champions League final.
