Erling Haaland has agreed to a monumental 10-year deal with Manchester City, securing his stay at the club until 2034. The Norwegian striker, whose previous contract was set to run until 2027, has been in exceptional form since joining City, scoring 111 goals in 126 matches.

This new contract ensures that Haaland will spend the majority of his career at Manchester City, with the deal expiring just before his 34th birthday. Haaland expressed his excitement about the future, saying in a club statement: “Manchester City is a special club, filled with fantastic people and amazing supporters. It’s an environment that brings out the best in everyone. I want to continue developing, improving, and doing my best to help us achieve even more success.”

While the exact details of the contract remain undisclosed, it is believed to be one of the most lucrative in sports history.

Haaland made the move to Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, having already built a reputation as one of Europe’s top goal scorers.

Erling Haaland quickly settled into life in the Premier League, setting a record by scoring 36 goals in his debut season, earning the Golden Boot.

In his first year at Manchester City, Haaland netted 52 goals in all competitions. He continued his impressive form in his second season, scoring 38 goals in 45 appearances, helping the club secure their fourth consecutive league title.

Haaland’s exceptional performances have only slightly slowed this season, with the striker scoring 21 goals in 28 matches so far. However, Manchester City is enduring a rare rough patch, having dropped to sixth in the league following four consecutive losses in November and December.

Amid this challenging stretch, Haaland’s long-term contract extension provides a boost to City supporters.

City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, praised Haaland, saying, “He is one of the best strikers in world football, but he is still very young and will continue to improve under Pep and his coaching team. If he stays focused, which I know he will, he can create a legendary legacy at this club. Now, he can concentrate on his game and continue playing a key role in our pursuit of more success.”

Alongside two Premier League titles, Haaland was part of City’s historic treble-winning team in the 2022-23 season, which included the Champions League and FA Cup.

City will return to action on Sunday against struggling Ipswich Town, who are currently 18th in the Premier League standings.
