Doechii’s career is reaching new heights as she has been named Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year. The rapper will be honored at an event later this month, as announced on Monday.
A rising star in the rap scene, Doechii has gained major recognition with her viral hits like “No Scrubs” and “Denial is a River,” which climbed to No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In January, she won her first-ever Grammy for Best Rap Album for her 2024 album Alligator Bites Never Heal, making her the third woman in Grammy history to win this category. Along with this, she received nominations for Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance. At the Grammy ceremony, Doechii also performed her hits “Denial is a River” and “Catfish,” marking her debut on the prestigious stage.
The Tampa-born artist has charted five songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including collaborations like “Balloon” with Tyler, the Creator, and “ExtraL” with Jennie.
In 2023, Doechii earned recognition from Billboard as the Music Rising Star. She now becomes only the third woman to receive the Woman of the Year award, following in the footsteps of Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande.
Billboard’s editor-in-chief, Hannah Karp, praised Doechii for her “ultra-candid lyrics and utterly unique sound, style, and spirit.”
Previous recipients of the Woman of the Year honor include names like SZA, Billie Eilish, Madonna, and Taylor Swift.
At the 2025 Women in Music event, where Doechii will be celebrated, other awards will be presented, including Songwriter of the Year to Jennie, the Breakthrough Award to Erykah Badu, and the Hitmaker Award to Meghan Trainor. Performances by Ángela Aguilar, aespa, GloRilla, Gracie Abrams, Megan Moroney, Muni Long, and Tyla will also take place.
The event will be broadcast live on VIZIO WatchFree+ on March 29 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
