DHL Express, part of Germany’s Deutsche Post, announced it will suspend global shipments to U.S. consumers for items valued over $800 starting April 21 due to recent changes in U.S. customs regulations that have caused delays in processing.

The company’s website notice, though not dated, was compiled on Saturday. DHL explained that the suspension stems from new U.S. customs rules that now require formal processing for all shipments worth over $800, a significant drop from the previous threshold of $2,500 before April 5.

While shipments between businesses will not be suspended, they may still experience delays. Shipments valued under $800, whether to businesses or consumers, are not impacted by the new regulations.

DHL clarified that this suspension is temporary and emphasized its commitment to working with customers to navigate the changes. Last week, in response to questions, DHL stated it would continue processing shipments from Hong Kong to the U.S. in accordance with current customs rules and would assist customers with adapting to the new regulations set to take effect on May 2.

This comes after Hongkong Post recently suspended mail services for goods sent to the U.S. by sea, accusing the U.S. of unfair practices after the U.S. canceled tariff-free trade benefits for shipments from China and Hong Kong.
