A Delta Air Lines plane caught fire on Monday just before it was set to take off from Orlando International Airport, prompting the evacuation of passengers. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The fire occurred on Delta Flight 1213, an Airbus A330, which was scheduled to fly from Orlando to Atlanta. The engine fire started late in the morning while the plane was still on the ramp, before departure. The incident raised concerns, as there have been several aviation accidents and close calls recently, although air travel remains statistically safe.
According to Delta, the fire started in the tailpipe of one of the plane’s two engines. The flight crew followed emergency procedures to evacuate the 282 passengers, 10 flight attendants, and two pilots. The airport’s rescue and firefighting team responded quickly to the scene.
Delta confirmed that maintenance teams would inspect the aircraft to determine the cause of the fire.
