Less than a day after the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks pulled off a major trade, the San Antonio Spurs made a move of their own, acquiring an All-Star to pair with their rising star.
The Spurs are acquiring De’Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings in a three-team trade that also sends Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls to the Kings, according to a source with knowledge of the deal. The source requested anonymity since the trade has not yet been finalized.
Fox will join forces with first-time All-Star Victor Wembanyama, and the two will aim to lead San Antonio to a playoff spot. Currently 21-25 and sitting in 12th place in the Western Conference, the Spurs are just two games behind the Kings for a play-in position. The team has missed the playoffs for the last five seasons. Fox played a key role in helping the Kings make the postseason last year, ending a 16-year playoff drought for the team.
Along with De’Aaron Fox, the Spurs also acquired Jordan McLaughlin in the trade. Meanwhile, the Kings received Sidy Cissoko, three future first-round picks (2025, 2027, and 2031), and three future second-round picks (2025 and two in 2028). The Chicago Bulls, in return, obtained Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, and a 2025 first-round pick.
In a separate major move on Saturday night, the Los Angeles Lakers secured Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Anthony Davis as part of a three-team trade that also involved the Utah Jazz.
