NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. is making a change with his No. 8 merchandise.

Earnhardt announced on social media that he has secured the rights to use a stylized version of the No. 8, opting to move away from the original No. 8 logo previously associated with his NASCAR team, JR Motorsports. This decision comes shortly after Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson filed an opposition claim with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, aiming to prevent Earnhardt from using that specific No. 8 logo on merchandise.

“We are looking forward to the remainder of an already successful season,” Earnhardt shared on social media.

Jackson, who has worn the No. 8 since his college days at Louisville, had previously registered the trademark “ERA 8 by Lamar Jackson.” His latest claim argued that Earnhardt’s attempt to trademark the No. 8 logo could cause confusion among consumers.

By rebranding, Earnhardt avoided the need for a trademark review. If the U.S. Patent and Trademark appeal board had ruled against him, Jackson could have pursued legal action if Earnhardt had used the disputed No. 8 on any merchandise.
