Daddy Yankee and his wife, Mireddys González, are ending their long marriage. The Puerto Rican reggaeton star shared the news on his Instagram Stories Monday, explaining that they are separating after she recently filed for divorce. In a heartfelt statement written in Spanish, Yankee said, “With a heart full of respect and honesty, I want to share some important news about my personal life.” He went on to reveal that, after over 20 years of marriage and several months of attempting to save their relationship, his lawyers are now responding to the divorce petition filed by Mireddys.
Daddy Yankee, whose real name is Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, and Mireddys González tied the knot in 1994 when they were both 17 years old. The couple has three children together: daughters Jesaaelys Marie, 28, and Yamilette Rodríguez, and son Jeremy, 26.
Although the “Gasolina” singer did not reveal the specific reason behind González’s divorce petition, he shared that his Christian faith has been his “refuge” and “constant guide” during the process of trying to “overcome our differences” with González.
Yankee expressed his respect for Mireddys’ decision and expressed gratitude for the time they spent together, which was filled with blessings, love, and strong values. He also emphasized that their beautiful family will remain their priority moving forward.
In addition to their marriage, González also managed Yankee’s career and served as the CEO of his record label, El Cartel Records. Yankee referred to her as “the boss” in a 2021 interview.
Yankee acknowledged that this is a difficult time, but he understands it is part of his life journey. He concluded, “It’s time to accept it and move forward, protecting my stability, my children, and everything we’ve built over the years. I’m deeply grateful to those who have supported us, and I ask that you respect our privacy during this time. I know this news may come as a surprise to many.”
