Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry will miss at least the first game of the team’s upcoming road trip due to a pelvic injury.

Curry sustained the injury during the third quarter of Thursday night’s 117-114 victory over the Toronto Raptors, when he fell to the floor while driving for a layup.

An MRI conducted on Friday revealed no structural damage, and Curry was diagnosed with a pelvic contusion. As a result, he will not join the team for their game against Atlanta on Saturday and will be re-evaluated on Monday.

The Warriors are embarking on a six-game road trip, with their next game scheduled against Miami on Tuesday. Entering Friday in sixth place in the Western Conference, Golden State is striving to stay in the top six to avoid the play-in tournament.

Curry had just returned to the court Thursday after resting on Tuesday. The injury occurred when he landed heavily on his tailbone after attempting the layup in the third quarter. He remained on the floor for a few moments before being helped off the court and taken to the locker room.

After the game, Warriors coach Steve Kerr mentioned that Curry tried to convince the team to let him return to the court, but the decision was made to keep him out for precautionary reasons.

“He thought he might be able to come back,” Kerr said. “But we decided it wasn’t worth the risk. Hopefully, it’s not serious.”

Curry, an 11-time All-Star and two-time NBA scoring champion, is leading the Warriors this season with an average of 24.3 points per game.
