Steph Curry says he’s retiring from the slam dunk after throwing down 1st jam in 6 years

Steph Curry surprised fans by dunking for the first time in six years during the Golden State Warriors’ game against the Philadelphia 76ers. With the ball in his hands and no defenders in sight, Curry opted for a rare one-handed dunk instead of an easy layup. This marked his first dunk since February 21, 2019, at the Warriors’ former home, Oracle Arena. Curry, who scored 29 points and registered 13 assists in the Warriors’ loss to the 76ers, mentioned that he had never dunked at their new arena, the Chase Center.

Despite the impressive play, Curry made it clear that he would likely not dunk again. At 37 years old, he joked that his dunk against the 76ers would be his last. “I’ve been feeling pretty good,” Curry said, acknowledging some knee issues he’s been managing this season. “Take advantage of a cherry-pick opportunity. That will probably be my last dunk, though. I’m calling it right now, that was the last one you’ll ever see.”

Warriors assistant coach Jerry Stackhouse had playfully teased Curry about his lack of dunks during the team’s morning shootaround. After Curry threw down his dunk, he pointed directly at Stackhouse on the bench.

“It was a very random comment this morning, and the fact that it actually happened was hilarious,” Curry said.

Curry then made it clear that the dunk was a one-time event, saying there won’t be another viral clip to capture.

“For sure,” he confirmed. “I’ll only lay the ball up. It took everything out of me to get up there.”
