Titled “Stand,” the book is set to be published on November 11 by St. Martin’s Press. In April, Booker, a Democrat from New Jersey, made national headlines by delivering the longest continuous speech ever on the Senate floor — lasting just over 25 hours. During this marathon session, the 56-year-old senator spoke out against various policies of the Trump administration, including the unusual suggestion to annex Canada and proposed reductions to Social Security offices.
“This book focuses on the virtues essential to our nation’s success and the valuable lessons we can learn from past generations of Americans who fought to uphold them,” Booker said in a statement.
His speech surpassed the previous record held by Senator Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, a segregationist and southern Democrat known for opposing the Civil Rights Act of 1957, which ultimately passed.
During the speech, Booker received help from fellow Democrats, who took turns questioning him on the Senate floor, allowing him brief breaks throughout the lengthy address.
