Canada is set to implement retaliatory tariffs totaling Canadian $29.8 billion (about $20.7 billion) in response to the 25% steel and aluminum tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, according to a senior Canadian government official on Wednesday.

The official, who requested to remain anonymous, provided this information prior to the official announcement.

Meanwhile, the European Union also unveiled its retaliatory actions, introducing new tariffs on U.S. industrial and agricultural goods. This response came just hours after the Trump administration increased tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports to 25%.

Canada is the largest foreign supplier of steel and aluminum to the United States.
