The story of the film “The Boondock Saints” is brutal but thrilling, in which two Irish brothers Connor and Murphy McManus (Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus) take on mobsters. Although the film failed at the box office when it was released in 1999, the film’s enthusiasm with the audience continues to this day.

The screenplay of the film revolves around the ups and downs of writer- director Troy Duffy’s life. Duffy wrote the story while working at a bar in Los Angeles. The screenplay became a hot topic within days, and Duffy received a major offer from Miramax Studios to produce the film.
Miramax owner Harvey Weinstein also offered Duffy co- ownership of the bar. However, the deal was canceled due to controversy over the choice of actors. Eventually, Duffy produced the film “The Boondock Saints” with newcomers Flannery and Reedus. Although the film was released in only two theaters after its production, it reached audiences through video and DVD and gained a unique popularity.

The film was severely criticized for its violent scenes. Although critics have criticized the film, the film’s fan base has stood by it. Several theme pubs of the film have also opened internationally, including a pub called ‘Boondock Pub’ in Red Square, Russia. Also, many fans have tattoos of characters from the movie.
Troy Duffy’s film made him a cultural icon. In 2009, the second part of the film also came out, which grossed 10 million dollars. Now, Duffy is gearing up for a third installment, with plans for more sequels if successful.

Even after 25 years, the movie “The Boondock Saints” keeps the audience engaged in its story.
