Fans of Blue Ivy Carter, the 13-year-old daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, have adopted the nickname “Ivy League” as they cheer her on during her performances. The young talent is making waves as a dancer on her mother’s “Cowboy Carter Tour,” and social media is buzzing with clips of her incredible moves.
Blue Ivy, who has always been in the public eye due to her famous parents, made her stage debut as a dancer during Beyoncé’s “Renaissance Tour” two years ago. At the time, some critics questioned whether the 11-year-old was ready for such a big stage. In her documentary about the tour, Beyoncé shared how she felt distressed after learning that her daughter had seen some of the negative reviews, and admitted that she initially didn’t think it was the right time for Blue Ivy to perform on such a grand stage.
“I didn’t think it was an appropriate place for an 11-year-old on the stadium stage,” Beyoncé explained. She expressed concern because of all the struggles she had to face to get to where she was in her career, and felt Blue Ivy hadn’t yet faced those challenges.
Despite these concerns, Blue Ivy faced the situation with maturity and determination. Instead of letting the criticism hold her back, she used it to fuel her improvement, as her mother noted in the documentary. “I feel like now my mindset has changed,” Blue Ivy said. “Now I actually have to wake up in the morning and go to rehearsals.”
The young star has certainly proven herself beyond the stage. At just nine years old, Blue Ivy won her first Grammy in 2021 for Best Music Video for “Brown Skin Girl,” a song by Beyoncé that featured a writing credit for Blue Ivy. She also made history in 2013 as the youngest person to ever appear on the Billboard charts, when her baby noises were included in her father Jay-Z’s song “Glory.”
Blue Ivy’s continued success has shown that, despite her young age, she’s already carving out her own legacy in the entertainment world.
