Bayern goalkeeper Grohs has received a cancer diagnosis

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Mala Grohs has been diagnosed with cancer, and as a result, she will be taking an indefinite break from football to focus on her treatment and recovery. The 23-year-old’s club, Bayern Munich, has announced they have extended her contract for one year, keeping her at the club until the summer of 2026. In a statement, Grohs expressed that facing this illness is a challenge she never anticipated having to confront.

Mala Grohs has expressed confidence in overcoming her cancer diagnosis, stating that with the support she is receiving, she believes she will fully recover and regain her health.

Bianca Rech, Bayern Munich’s director of women’s football, assured that the entire club is united in supporting Grohs. She emphasized that the contract extension was a way to demonstrate their commitment to her, with the whole team, coaching staff, and club standing by her side. Rech also sent well-wishes for Grohs’ strength and recovery.

Since joining Bayern Munich from VfL Bochum in 2019, Grohs has made 81 appearances for the club, helping them win three German league titles and a German Super Cup.
