Loss of a Beloved Radio Personality
The Atlanta entertainment community has lost a significant figure with the passing of popular radio personality Wanda Smith on Saturday. The announcement was made by Rick Caffey, Senior Vice President and Market Manager at V-103 radio, just a day after she celebrated her birthday.
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of our dear Wanda Smith, who always brought joy to our lives and played a vital role at V-103 for many years. We offer our heartfelt prayers and condolences to her family,” Caffey shared in an Instagram post.
A Multifaceted Talent
Wanda Smith started co-hosting the “Frank and Wanda in the Morning” show on V-103, then known as WVEE-FM, in 1998, and she remained in that role for more than twenty years. According to the Atlanta-Constitution Journal, her only break from the show was in 2013. She made a comeback in 2014 to co-host alongside Ryan Cameron until her departure in 2019.
In addition to her radio career, Wanda Smith was a talented comedian. She contributed as a writer for the hit TV series “Def Comedy Jam” and BET’s “Comicview.” For many years, she had a regular performance at the Atlanta Comedy Theater in Norcross. Smith also appeared in several films, including Tyler Perry’s “Madea Goes to Jail” and “Madea’s Witness Protection.”
She is survived by her husband, LaMorris Sellers, and their three children.
As of now, the cause of her death has not been disclosed.
