Apple has released its latest update for iPhones and iPads: iOS 18.3 and iPadOS 18.3. This update includes several minor improvements, a significant change to Apple Intelligence, and security updates for iPhones.
Apple first introduced its generative models and other enhancements to Apple software with the initial batch of Apple Intelligence features in October, followed by more updates in December.
Here’s a quick rundown of some of the key features included in iOS 18.3 and iPadOS 18.3:
Notification summaries
In the iOS and iPadOS 18.3 update, Apple is giving AI-generated notification summaries a new look on iPhone 15 and 16 models, as well as on iPads with M1 chips or newer.
In the iOS and iPadOS 18.3 update, notification summaries will now feature italicized text to help users easily differentiate them from other notifications. Additionally, users can adjust the settings for notification summaries directly from the Lock Screen.
Apple is also temporarily disabling notification summaries for news and entertainment apps. Users who have opted into this feature will be notified once it’s available again.
Apple Intelligence on by default
In the past two OS updates, users had to actively opt-in to use Apple Intelligence features. However, with iOS and iPadOS 18.3, these features will be enabled automatically for new users and those upgrading, even if they hadn’t previously opted in.
Visual Intelligence upgrades
For iPhone 16 users, two new features have been added to Visual Intelligence via the camera control button. Users can now add events directly to their calendar from a poster, and Visual Intelligence can also recognize plants and animals.
