Knicks’ Anunoby leaves game against Lakers with sprained right foot

OG Anunoby, the Knicks forward, left Saturday night’s game against the Lakers after injuring his right foot. In the third quarter, Anunoby caught the ball near the left sideline while being defended by LeBron James, and it seemed like he might attempt a jump shot. Instead, he dropped to one knee, holding his lower right leg, prompting James to back off.

Anunoby eventually got up and walked straight to the locker room. The Knicks later confirmed that it was a foot injury and announced that Anunoby would not return to the game.

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau said that X-rays came back negative, though he was unsure if Anunoby would need an MRI.

“Obviously praying for the best. But I know as much as you guys know right now,” said Knicks captain Jalen Brunson after the game. “Obviously, he’s huge for our team.”

At the time of his injury, Anunoby was leading the Knicks with 13 points and had been the primary defender on LeBron James.
