Anne Hathaway Confirms Development of ‘The Princess Diaries 3’

You might be saying, “Shut up!” But it’s true: the “Princess Diaries” franchise is expanding! Anne Hathaway shared a playful video on her verified Instagram on Friday. The clip begins with her walking out of her house and signaling the number one with her hand. After Hathaway raised two fingers, the video switched to her co-star Julie Andrews, who echoed the phrase “shut up” from their 2004 sequel, “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.”

Smiling, Hathaway then held up three fingers and made her own “shut up” gesture. After blowing a kiss to the camera, she posted a screenshot of a news article announcing that “The Princess Diaries 3” is in development at Disney, with Adele Lim of “Joyride” set to direct.

In her caption, she wrote, “Miracles do happen,” followed by “Back to Genovia,” referencing the fictional kingdom from the films. She concluded her message with “The fairy tale continues” and a flaming heart emoji.

“The Princess Diaries” follows Mia Thermopolis, played by Hathaway, a regular teenager who discovers she is the heir to the royal throne. Andrews portrays Queen Clarice Renaldi, Mia’s grandmother and the ruler of Genovia.

The announcement of a third film, 20 years after the last installment, is exciting news for fans, but it’s not the only sequel Hathaway is involved in. According to IMDb, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is currently in pre-production, featuring Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci in the cast.

This sequel will center on Streep’s formidable magazine editor, Miranda Priestly, as she competes against her former assistant and current rival, Emily Charlton (Blunt), for advertising revenue amid the decline of print media, all while Miranda approaches retirement.
