On American Airlines Flight 1915 from Milwaukee to Dallas, a Canadian passenger tried to open the plane’s cabin doors and had to be restrained by other passengers using duct tape, according to media reports.
According to a report by Dallas Fort Worth International Airport’s security department, the concerned passenger pleaded with a flight attendant mid- flight to open the plane’s door, saying he “needs to get off the plane urgently.” When that request was refused, he became very angry.
According to the report, the passenger ran up to the 79- year- old flight attendant and tried to make his way to the door. However, the flight attendant standing at the door tried to stop him. At this point, three other passengers helped the flight attendant and restrained the agitated passenger by tying his hands and feet with duct tape.
After the incident, the plane landed safely at Dallas Fort Worth Airport around 10 am. After the plane landed, police and security department officials entered the plane and took control of the situation, KDFW channel reported.
Meanwhile, the flight attendant sustained injuries on his wrist and neck. She was rushed to the hospital and has been discharged after treatment. On the other hand, the concerned passenger has been taken for a mental health test.
Dallas Fort Worth Airport spokesman Zachary Griner confirmed the incident, saying a “disturbed passenger” was reported on the flight and police detained him.
The incident was averted due to the vigilance of the passengers and bravery of the flight attendants, but such incidents highlight the seriousness of security during air travel.
