Adrian Peterson, the former NFL star running back, was arrested early Friday morning in Minnesota on suspicion of driving under the influence after attending a fan event for the Minnesota Vikings during the NFL Draft.
According to Hennepin County jail records, Peterson was taken into custody at 5:16 a.m. and released just over two hours later at 7:31 a.m. after posting a $4,000 bond. The 40-year-old is facing a misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree DWI and is scheduled to appear in court in Minneapolis on May 9.
A trooper clocked Peterson driving 83 mph in a 55-mph zone. A breathalyzer test at the scene showed his blood alcohol content was 0.14%—well above Minnesota’s legal limit of 0.08%.
The incident occurred on a freeway roughly eight miles south of U.S. Bank Stadium, where Peterson had appeared the previous evening at a Vikings draft party. He was among several former players invited to celebrate the opening round of the NFL Draft with fans.
Peterson, who resides in the Houston area, was drafted by the Vikings in 2007 as the seventh overall pick. Over the course of his career, he racked up 14,918 rushing yards, making him the fifth all-time leading rusher in NFL history. After a decade in Minnesota, he went on to play for six different teams before retiring.
