Ahmedabad Air India Plane Crash: 242 Passengers Killed Tragically, Local Residents Also Lost Their Lives

Ahmedabad Plane Crash

An Air India aircraft en route from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after takeoff on Thursday, 12 June 2025, in the afternoon. The crash was so severe that all 242 people on board were killed. According to news agency AP, no passengers survived the accident.

Crash Occurred in Residential Area, Casualties Among Locals Feared

Police Commissioner G.S. Malik stated that the aircraft crashed in a residential area, raising fears that some local residents might also have lost their lives. Rescue and relief operations were launched immediately, and teams from the Indian Armed Forces were dispatched to the site.

DNA Tests Requested for Identification of Victims

The Gujarat government has appealed to the relatives of the deceased to provide DNA samples to help identify the victims. The crash was so intense that identifying many of the bodies has become extremely difficult. DNA testing is being conducted at B.J. Medical College.

Over 50 Injured, Treatment Ongoing at Hospital

Many local residents were injured in the area where the plane crashed. According to the Gujarat Health Department, around 50 injured individuals have been admitted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and are currently undergoing treatment. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the hospital and met with the injured to inquire about their condition.

Rescue Operations Still Underway at the Crash Site

Teams from the NDRF and other agencies are stationed at the site to carry out relief efforts. A medical team from the army is also present. Rescue operations at the scene are still ongoing.

Prime Minister Orders Immediate Assistance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the incident and spoke with Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, instructing him to provide all necessary assistance immediately. All concerned agencies have been placed on high alert.

Eyewitness Accounts

Eyewitnesses reported that shortly after takeoff, the aircraft suddenly began descending and crashed into the residential complex of doctors near B.J. Medical College. The crash caused significant damage to the premises as well.
