Angel City defender Savy King was rushed to the hospital after experiencing a “medical event” during a match against the Utah Royals in the National Women’s Soccer League on Friday night.

In the 74th minute of the game, King suddenly collapsed on the field, leaving her teammates visibly shaken as medical personnel quickly attended to her. After approximately 10 minutes of treatment, King was stretchered off the field and taken to a nearby hospital.

Angel City released a statement saying that King “was transported by EMS to the hospital following a medical event on the field. She is responsive and undergoing further evaluation. We appreciate the support and concern shown by everyone.”

Following the match, both teams came together at midfield to pray for King.

King, 20, was selected as the second overall pick in the 2024 NWSL draft by Bay FC, where she played 18 games. She was traded to Angel City in February and has started every game for them this season.
