Former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Cecily Strong is preparing to welcome a new member to her family. On Instagram on Friday, she happily announced that she is “pregnant at 40 with IVF” and is “very hopeful” that she will meet her “little girl” next spring. In the first photo, she is seen wearing a T- shirt that says “pregnant, pro- choice and proud”.
Strong said in his post that it felt “weird and scary” to talk about it openly, and urged Americans to vote in Tuesday’s general election. “A few years ago I did a skit on SNL as Goober the Clown, who had an abortion the day before her 23rd birthday,” Strong wrote. “My same dung clown is now happily pregnant at 40 thanks to IVF.” She admitted it was “weird and scary” to be out in the open, but she said what was scarier was what might happen after the election.
“Right now I live in a state where I can get all the health care I need. But if there’s a national ban like Project 2025, we won’t be safe,” she said.
“The Supreme Court has decided to let some die based on their geographic location, and the current Republican nominee holds himself accountable for that decision.”
Project 2025 is a political blueprint created by organizations such as the Heritage Foundation that outlines what the first six months of a potential second Trump term might look like. It proposes to ban drugs used for abortion.
Strong reflected on her personal experiences with reproductive health services. “I’ve seen so many women in this waiting room, who come with their own struggles, journeys and health rights. Some look happy, some excited, some with scary faces, some feeling overwhelmed by past grief,” Strong said. “But no one in that waiting room seemed incapable of their decisions.”
She further urged voters to vote to protect women’s health and rights, so that her little girl, whom she hopes to meet, will have a secure future. “Please vote for all of them and future generations like my little girl,” she wrote emotionally.
Strong was part of SNL from 2012 to 2022 and starred in the 2016 film “Ghostbusters.” This year she starred in the romcom “Brooklyn Laundry” at the New York Theatre.
