Former MLS and Gabonese forward Aaron Boupendza has tragically passed away at the age of 28 following a fall from the 11th floor of a building in China. Local authorities confirmed the news, stating that the incident occurred on Wednesday at around 1:14 p.m. local time.

Boupendza, who had previously played for FC Cincinnati and Romanian club Rapid București, had joined Chinese Super League team Zhejiang FC earlier this year. Authorities from the Hangzhou Public Security Bureau responded to reports of the fall, sending the player to the hospital, where he was later declared dead.

An investigation by local authorities found that Boupendza fell from the balcony of his rented residence. After reviewing surveillance footage and conducting interviews, officials confirmed that there was no foul play involved in the incident, ruling out any criminal activity.

Zhejiang FC expressed its condolences in a statement, offering full cooperation with authorities in the ongoing investigation. “All the staff of the club express their deepest condolences to his family,” the club added.

The Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) also paid tribute to Boupendza, remembering him as a talented striker who made a lasting impact during the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. “FEGAFOOT and the entire Gabonese soccer community offer their sincere condolences to his family in this difficult time,” the federation stated.

Gabon’s interim president, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, expressed his sorrow on social media, describing Boupendza as a gifted forward who brought pride to Gabonese football. He extended his condolences to the player’s family and loved ones, wishing peace to Boupendza’s soul.
