Mohamed Salah is set to extend his successful tenure with Liverpool for another two years after signing a new contract, ending months of speculation about his future. The 32-year-old Egyptian forward, who joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017, is one of three senior players—along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk—whose contracts were due to expire at the end of this season. Salah is the first to renew his commitment, having already cemented his legacy as a club legend, with 243 goals in 394 appearances, making him the third-highest scorer in Liverpool’s history.

Though Liverpool did not officially announce the length of Salah’s new contract, manager Arne Slot confirmed it was for two years. Salah expressed his excitement about staying at Liverpool, stating, “I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football.” He emphasized his happiness at the club, calling his time at Liverpool the best years of his career.

Salah has had an outstanding impact at Liverpool, earning multiple accolades, including being the Premier League’s top scorer in three seasons, twice being named Player of the Year, and winning major trophies like the Premier League in 2020 and the Champions League in 2019. This season, he has been pivotal in Liverpool’s success, contributing 27 goals and helping the team maintain an 11-point lead in the Premier League as they aim for their 20th English top-flight title.

Salah’s future with Liverpool had been uncertain for much of the season, with rumors linking him to a move to the Saudi league. The club had reportedly turned down an offer worth $188 million for him in 2023. Salah had also suggested in interviews that he might be playing his final season at Liverpool. However, coach Arne Slot had been optimistic that Salah would stay, praising sporting director Richard Hughes and the Fenway Sports Group for securing the forward’s future despite the club’s usual policy of not offering lucrative contracts to players over 30.

Salah’s new contract is seen as a positive for Liverpool, both in terms of retaining a star player and bolstering the club’s appeal in the transfer market. Slot noted that Salah’s decision to stay is a sign of the club’s ambition, which can also influence other players considering their futures at Anfield.

With Salah’s future now secured, attention turns to whether Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk will follow suit. Van Dijk, who has been with Liverpool since 2018, has indicated that progress is being made toward a new deal. Alexander-Arnold, however, has been heavily linked with a potential move to Real Madrid, raising doubts about his long-term future at Liverpool.
