New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye suffered a head injury in the second quarter of their Week 8 game against the New York Jets. After the injury, May left the field and underwent a medical examination in the ‘Blue Medical Tent’ on the Patriots’ sideline. Their status has been declared as “questionable to return”.
Maye was playing in his third NFL game and had a solid game against the Jets. He had a good run on the ground in this game, including a 46- yard scoring run. He was 3- of-6 passing for 23 yards. However, he had to leave the match soon due to injury. When Maye left the field, there were 13:45 left in the game.
With a 7-6 lead in the match, Maye suffered an injury. As he ran outside the pocket, New York Jets linebacker Jameon Sherwood bumped the back of his helmet from behind while attempting to slide. The blow injured Maye and forced him out of the match. He completed 3 of 6 throws for 22 yards in the game, while also scoring a career- high 46 yards as a rusher. He also scored his first touchdown on a 17- yard scamper that showcased his mastery of the double- strategy ability.
Entering the week eight game, Drake Maye had thrown for 519 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions in two games, and had a 65% passing success rate. This new player showed his great potential in a short span of time.
There are two more players behind Maye in the Patriots’ quarterback lineup. Veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett replaces Maye. Brissett had started the first five games of the week, but led New England to a 1-4 start.
Joe Milton III, who was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 draft, is currently listed as the Patriots’ third quarterback this week.
