Coen Carr earned his first career start for Michigan State during the NCAA Tournament’s South Region semifinals on Friday night, marking a special Homecoming appearance.
A native of Stockbridge, Michigan, Carr took the opening tip-off for the second-seeded Spartans as they squared off against Mississippi in the Sweet 16.
Standing 6-foot-6, the forward started in place of regular center Szymon Zapala, a strategic move aimed at boosting Michigan State’s athleticism in the frontcourt.
Carr, who was playing in his 71st game for the Spartans, entered the contest averaging 8.0 points and 3.7 rebounds in roughly 20 minutes of action per game.
