Lewis Hamilton’s debut race with Ferrari in Australia proved to be a tough challenge, as he finished in a disappointing 10th place. Frustration grew after a poor strategy cost him a potential win, coupled with constant radio communication throughout the difficult race, which was eventually won by McLaren’s Lando Norris.
Hamilton started in eighth place and spent the early stages of the race trailing behind Williams’ Alex Albon. However, the seven-time world champion took the lead on lap 46 after drivers ahead of him pitted for fresh intermediate tires. Despite this, Hamilton expressed his anger over team radio, saying, “We missed a big opportunity,” after facing traffic and a late pit stop that dropped him to ninth.
His situation worsened when Oscar Piastri passed Hamilton on the final lap, pushing him further back to 10th place, leaving Hamilton in a sour mood.
“The rain always mixes things up, and strategy comes down to timing and a bit of luck,” the 40-year-old driver said. “We took a gamble and gained some positions, but pitting too late for intermediate tires cost us, and we ended up falling back to the top 10 with too much ground to make up.”
