Shakira, the Colombian pop sensation, has had to cancel a concert in Lima, Peru, after being hospitalized due to an abdominal issue. The singer shared an update on Instagram Sunday, revealing she had been taken to the emergency room and advised not to perform that evening.

“I am not in good enough condition to take the stage tonight,” she wrote. “I’m very sad to miss the chance to perform for my amazing fans here in Peru.” She expressed her hope of being discharged soon and mentioned that her team and the event promoters were already working to reschedule the concert.

Before this incident, Shakira had posted on social media thanking her Peruvian fans for their warm reception, sharing photos of her interacting with well-wishers.

The singer recently kicked off her world tour and is scheduled to perform in several Latin American countries. Afterward, she will head to the United States, with her first show in Charlotte, North Carolina, on May 13.

The tour, titled “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” or “Women Don’t Cry Anymore,” is part of Shakira’s latest global performances.

Shakira is widely regarded as one of the most successful Latin American artists of the early 21st century, though she has faced some controversies recently.

In November 2023, the singer resolved a tax evasion case with Spanish authorities. Shakira admitted to the charges and agreed to pay the owed taxes in full, along with an additional fine. According to the statement from the Barcelona prosecutor’s office, she paid a total of €17.5 million ($19 million), which included her outstanding taxes, interest, and a €7.3 million ($8 million) fine.
