Great Britain’s Corie Mapp capped off an outstanding season by winning his first men’s Para-bobsleigh World Championships gold, just two weeks after securing his third overall World Cup title.
The 46-year-old, a double amputee and former soldier, posted an impressive time of 4 minutes 54.03 seconds across his four runs in St Moritz, winning the gold by 0.3 seconds ahead of Switzerland’s Jonas Frei. Austria’s Hermann Ellmauer finished third.
This victory made Mapp the first British man in 60 years to win a World Championships bobsleigh gold, after previously earning silver in 2019 and bronze in 2024 and 2017.
Mapp expressed his emotions saying, “This win is very emotional for me—something I’ve wanted for so long and we’ve worked so hard to achieve. Everything aligned perfectly for this one, and I’m incredibly grateful.”
With this gold, Mapp has now achieved the Grand Slam in Para-bobsleigh, which includes world titles, European gold medals in 2019 and 2024, and World Cup overall titles in 2018, 2024, and 2025, bringing his total to 60 major medals in the sport.
Para-bobsleigh is not part of the Winter Paralympics, and Mapp’s win marks a historic achievement in the sport. The last British men to win a bobsleigh World Championships gold were Tony Nash and Robin Dixon in 1965.
