Former New York mayor and Donald Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani is facing contempt of court charges over false allegations. Washington DC It will be decided at a hearing on Friday before District Court Judge Beryl Howell here.

Award of damages for false allegations:
Andrea “Shy” Moss and her mother Ruby Freeman were accused by Giuliani of vote counting irregularities in the 2020 election. The allegations caused Moss and Freeman to suffer tremendous psychological distress, as well as threats and racism.

In December 2023, the court ruled in favor of Moss and Freeman, ordering Giuliani to pay $148 million in damages. This included $75 million in punitive damages and another $73 million.

Violation of court order?
Even after the court ordered him to pay restitution, Giuliani continued to make false claims of irregularities in Georgia’s vote- counting process in some podcasts. Against this background, the lawyers of Moss and Freeman have demanded contempt of court against Giuliani.

Giuliani’s defense:
Giuliani’s lawyers say he did not knowingly violate any court orders. According to him, Giuliani’s statements were made in good faith and did not violate court orders.

Moss and Freeman’s lives changed:
Moss and Freeman’s lives were completely changed by Giuliani’s false accusations. Moss said he has tried to change his appearance and avoid going out. Freeman, on the other hand, noted that they had lost their old home and identity forever.

Trouble is mounting for Giuliani:
If the court finds Giuliani in contempt, he could face fines or jail time. Earlier, a judge in New York had also held Giuliani in contempt of court and asked him to produce information about his assets.

It will be important to see whether Giuliani will be prosecuted in this hearing on Friday. It could also be a big step towards justice for Moss and Freeman.
