A passenger was arrested on Sunday after allegedly trying to divert a Mexican domestic flight to the United States, according to Volaris airline and Mexican authorities. An investigation is currently underway.
The flight, which had departed from El Bajio and was headed to Tijuana, was forced to make an emergency landing at Guadalajara Airport after the passenger attempted to hijack the plane. The airline confirmed that the crew followed proper security protocols and procedures, leading to the passenger’s detention.
The Federal Civil Aviation Agency reported that the National Guard was alerted, although their specific involvement in the incident is not yet clear. Volaris confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safe. The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience and reiterated that passenger and crew safety is its top priority.
After the passenger’s arrest in Guadalajara, the flight resumed its journey and continued to Tijuana without further incidents.
