Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, ruling him out of competing for playing time in his third year with the team. The decision came after consultations with doctors and his representatives, according to the Titans, who announced the news on Monday ahead of their training camp starting Tuesday.
The team expressed support for Levis’ choice to prioritize his long-term health, praising his professionalism and leadership growth throughout the offseason. They remain optimistic about his full recovery.
Levis’ surgery is scheduled for July 29, well before the Titans’ preseason opener against Tampa Bay on August 9 and the regular season kickoff at Denver on September 7.
Tennessee selected quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in April, following a difficult 2024 season for Levis. Last year, Levis started 12 games, throwing for 2,091 yards with 13 touchdowns but also 12 interceptions. He was sacked 41 times during a 3-14 season that earned the Titans the top draft pick.
The Titans also bolstered their quarterback room this offseason by adding veterans Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle.
Levis, picked 33rd overall in the 2023 draft after the former general manager traded up to select him from Kentucky, had a challenging season that included a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder sustained during a game against Miami in late September. He missed three games due to the injury but returned to play before the offseason.
Since Ward’s arrival, Titans head coach Brian Callahan has been rotating quarterbacks during offseason practices without naming a starter, a pattern expected to continue into training camp. Ward is widely expected to start when the season begins, leaving the backup spot open for competition.
Levis had been participating fully in offseason activities and expressed confidence about his development under Callahan’s system. In June, he shared that he felt more comfortable in his second year in the offense and was eager for training camp.
“I feel like I’m starting to get to that point as a quarterback, and it’s just cool to feel that and see it and show everyone else here,” Levis said during minicamp.
