French authorities are preparing to deploy tens of thousands of police officers on Sunday night as Paris Saint-Germain faces Chelsea in the Club World Cup final in the United States. Officials have issued strict warnings against any fan misconduct, following violent incidents that disrupted celebrations when PSG won its first Champions League trophy in Germany.

Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau told RMC media that no public gatherings will be allowed on the Champs-Elysées. He announced that 11,500 police and gendarmes will be stationed in Paris alone, with a total of 53,000 personnel deployed across France.

French law enforcement faces a dual security challenge: managing the PSG match at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and overseeing France’s Bastille Day celebrations on July 14. Retailleau noted that each year, troublemakers disrupt events with violence and looting, and this time authorities will have to secure numerous activities such as fireworks and public parties.

While most PSG Champions League victory celebrations were peaceful, some areas saw violence. In Dax, a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed during street festivities after the final. In Paris, a man in his 20s died after his scooter was struck by a car amid the celebrations.
