Kylian Mbappé has withdrawn the legal complaint he filed earlier this year against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) accusing the club of moral harassment, according to someone familiar with the situation.

The Paris prosecutor’s office had launched an investigation after Mbappé’s filing, but sources close to the France captain said on Tuesday that his decision to drop the case reflects a wish to reconcile with his former club. This source, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, clarified that this move does not affect a separate ongoing dispute over unpaid wages, which Mbappé claims amounts to 55 million euros ($61 million).

Earlier this year, Mbappé alleged he was subjected to “lofting” — a term used in France to describe the practice of isolating a player from the main squad for sporting, administrative, or disciplinary reasons. His grievances stemmed from how PSG sidelined him before the 2023-24 season after he decided not to renew his contract.

Despite past tensions, relations between Mbappé and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi have reportedly improved over recent weeks.

Mbappé left PSG last summer on a free transfer to Real Madrid after scoring a club-record 256 goals in seven years. He is set to face PSG in the upcoming Club World Cup semifinal.

His departure from PSG was marked by strained relations. Some fans booed him during his final home appearance at Parc des Princes. The club was reportedly disappointed after offering Mbappé the most lucrative contract in its history in 2022.

In June 2023, Mbappé shocked PSG by announcing he would not take the option for an extra contract year. With his deal nearing its end, PSG was forced into a difficult position, needing to sell him rather than risk losing him on a free transfer in 2024.

Following his decision, Mbappé was excluded from the preseason tour to Japan and South Korea and trained separately with fringe players. PSG expressed a preference to sell him but faced resistance from Mbappé, who declined a reported €300 million move to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal.

Although initially left out of PSG’s opening league game of the season, Mbappé soon returned to the lineup after discussions with the club.
