President- elect Donald Trump on Saturday announced the appointment of his former policy adviser, Brooke Rollins, as Secretary of the Department of Agriculture.

“Brook’s commitment to supporting American farmers, protecting food self- sufficiency, and revitalizing America’s small towns that depend on agriculture is unparalleled,” Trump said in his statement.

Brooke Rollins is the CEO of the America First Policy Institute, which has close ties to Trump’s transition team. She has been openly supportive of Trump’s work. After his election victory, he congratulated Trump on social media platform X, saying, “We love you, Mr. President, and are proud to carry forward your America First approach.”

Rollins’ name was previously discussed for the post of White House Chief of Staff. However, he withdrew from the race for the position due to a power struggle with Susie Wiles. Instead, he had informed the transition team that he was interested in the post of Agriculture Secretary. The position was discussed between Trump and Rollins this week.
“As our next Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke will work to protect the interests of American farmers. These farmers are the true backbone of our country,” Trump said in his statement Saturday. “Congratulations Brooke !”

Rollins served as White House Domestic Policy Council director during Trump’s first term. Before that, she was president of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, a conservative think tank, for 15 years.

The name of Kelly Loeffler was also discussed for the post of Agriculture Secretary. He spoke with the transition team after a meeting with President- elect Trump at Mar- a- Lago on Friday. However, Trump delayed announcing the agriculture secretary post Friday night despite announcing other appointments, raising questions about whether Loeffler would get the job.
The United States Department of Agriculture has 29 agencies and offices, and employs about 100,000 employees. Apart from agriculture, the department also focuses on areas such as natural resources, rural development and nutrition.

The Agriculture Secretary position will be very important, especially since Trump has appointed Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who plans to influence the agricultural industry.
