A 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck off the Pacific coast of Ecuador on Friday, shaking the northern region of the country. While there were some reports of house damage, no injuries were reported.

The earthquake’s epicenter was located 13 miles (20.9 kilometers) northeast of Esmeraldas, a coastal city, with a depth of 21.7 miles (35 kilometers).

Ecuador’s risk management office reported that the quake was felt in at least 10 provinces, though authorities are still monitoring the situation and conducting assessments.

Local media shared images of damage in Esmeraldas, the coastal town nearest to the epicenter, showing some house facades that were affected by the tremor.

Esmeraldas is located over 183 miles (296 kilometers) northwest of Quito, Ecuador’s capital.

Initially, Ecuadorean authorities issued a tsunami alert for the Pacific coast, but the warning was later canceled.
